About Us

The First Grace Missionary Baptist Church was organized August of 1955 by the Late Pastor Nathan Shorter Sr. It all began with just eleven member and five support churches, a little bit of faith and a whole lot of prayer were the main ingredients that inspired the members of The First Grace Church family to hold on to God’s unchanging hand.

Our Vision from the very onset of this journey has been to Let our light so shine, that men can see our good works and glorify the Father which is in heaven ( Matthew 5:16 ), also compelling them to come to Jesus Christ.

In 1996 after forty-One years of ministering in the North Lawndale Community Pastor Nathan Shorter Sr. retired from his position as pastor of the First Grace M.B.C.
In April of 1996 God called Reverend Anthony Harris to become our Pastor, along with his wife Sister Dorene Harris.

Pastor Harris was an Associate Minister of our church in 1980 where he served faithfully.
Along with much prayer and a humble spirit Anthony & Dorene Harris shared Gods vision for this ministry.

Our mission statement is: “Where the Word of God builds People for Purpose, Power, and Praise”. Ephesians 4:11-12
We also believe what Proverbs 29:18a say’s “Where there is no vision, the people perish:.

At The First Grace Missionary Baptist Church Our Vision is: To help people become acquainted with Jesus Christ, recognizing Him as Savior of the world, also making available the appropriate training and support ministries for kingdom building, and commissioning leaders of this ministry to carry the Gospel from the local church into the world, helping people to grow to their fullest potential in Jesus Christ.

To God Be, The Glory, Honor and Praise!

Enjoying Your Spiritual Witness

Introduction: Some of our Lord’s last words on this earth were that we should be witnesses for Him (Acts 1:8).
A witness is one who knows something by experience. God made a tremendous investment in you through the cross of Jesus. He not only saved you from sin but also to be His witness. He wants you to tell others what you personally know about His saving power. It is true you witness through your good deeds, but witnessing must also be verbal. Jesus taught that what is in your heart will come out your mouth.
Matthew 12:34 (KJV) O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. If Jesus is in your heart, your mouth will reveal Him. Witnessing is imperative for you “to deepen your spiritual roots.”
The Dead Sea is stagnant because it is always receiving and never giving out. The same is true of the Christian life. If you are always hearing and receiving but are keeping it to yourself, you will become a stagnant Christian. After prayer, Bible study, and church attendance, nothing is more important than sharing your witness in a positive way. Therefore, let’s consider the subject of witnessing…

I.} The Purpose for Sharing Your Witness

1.} Sharing what Jesus Christ has done for you should be one of the most logical, natural, and exciting things you do.

a.} Matthew 28:19-20 (GW) 19 So wherever you go, make disciples of all nations: Baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach them to do everything I have commanded you. “And remember that I am always with you until the end of time.”
b.} John 15:16 (GW) You didn’t choose me, but I chose you. I have appointed you to go, to produce fruit that will last, and to ask the Father in my name to give you whatever you ask for.
2.} The Preparation To Share Your Witness. It is really not a question of whether or not you are going to be a witness, but a question of what kind of witness you will be. We are all witnesses for Christ—good or bad—but we are witnesses. Being an effective, positive witness is not an accident but the result of careful preparation.
Read 1 Peter 3:16-17 and explain why preparation for witnessing is important:
1 Peter 3:16-17 (AMP) 16 [And see to it that] your conscience is entirely clear (unimpaired), so that, when you are falsely accused as evildoers, those who threaten you abusively and revile your right behavior in Christ may come to be ashamed [of slandering your good lives]. 17  For [it is] better to suffer [unjustly] for doing right, if that should be God’s will, than to suffer [justly] for doing wrong.
3.}What four specific things should you pray for to prepare for witnessing, according to Colossians 4 ?
a.} Colossians 4:3 (GW) At the same time also pray for us. Pray that God will give us an opportunity to speak the word so that we may tell the mystery about Christ. It is because of this mystery that I am a prisoner.
b.} Colossians 4:4 (GW) Pray that I may make this mystery as clear as possible. This is what I have to do.
c.} Colossians 4:5 (GW) Be wise in the way you act toward those who are outside {the Christian faith}. Make the most of your opportunities.
d.} Colossians 4:6 (GW) Everything you say should be kind and well thought out so that you know how to answer everyone.
4.}What should be your attitude as you encounter people who do not know Jesus as Savior and Lord, according to?

Matthew 9:36 (KJV) But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

5.}Who are some of the first people to whom you should prepare to witness, according to?

Mark 5:19 (KJV) Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
