Our Pastor

Anthony Harris

Pastor & Teacher

throughout the Chicago land area. He began his Christian journey in 1978, as a member of the Mt. Olive M. B. Church. During his eight-year membership, he served as an associate minister and dedicated choir member, fully committed to serving God in scripture and in song.

In 1982, he married Dorene Harris, a devoted member of the Mt. Olive M.B. Church. After much contemplation, the newlyweds decided to leave their respective church homes to serve at Progressive Community Church. In June of 1985, under the leadership of Rev. Herbert B. Martin, Rev. Harris was officially ordained a minister. This milestone brought him into a new era, paving the way for an elevation in his spiritual journey.

In 1986, Rev. James Bass made Rev. Harris an offer he could not refuse. He was asked to return to Mt. Olive to pastor the youth ministry. This opportunity allowed Pastor Harris to preach the Word of God every 4th Sunday and gave him full reign over the Youth Church ministry. Under his leadership, this ministry blossomed to include, not only Sunday school classes, but junior church classes as well. Rev. Harris was the second minister to embrace the youth of Mt. Olive, training junior deacons and showing the young people that praise is appropriate for all ages. He served as Youth Pastor for ten years, teaching children of all ages to develop a sound relationship with God, while building on their foundation of faith.

In 1996, God saw fit to call Rev. Harris back to First Grace M.B. Church. He would return, not as a member, but as pastor, a pastor with a vision, fully capable of turning God’s plan into reality. Pastor Harris has definitely been on the move these past twelve years! Through his teaching, the congregation has grown, and lives have been changed. He continues to be a strong presence in the community, providing monetary aid, as well as food and clothing to those in need. Pastor Harris is well known for his commitment to the sick and shut-in, serving vibrantly in a Hospital Ministry that consistently visits the sick, offering prayer and consolation to those who need it the most.

With a B.B.A in Christian Education from CCCBI, along with his continuing education classes from the Chicago Baptist Institute, Pastor Harris continues to educate himself and others on the Word of God. His helpmate in the ministry, Dorene Harris, also shares this burning desire for preparing God’s people for service. Together, they humbly serve God’s people, helping them to develop a life changing faith that stems from completely yielding to the powerful will of God.
